James Yamkela Qeqe, known as The New Voice of Africa, was born in Pretoria and raised in Alice, nestled in South Africa’s Amathola Region. His journey into the arts began with Amamfengu Entertainment, where he became an actor and, by 2013, had earned the role of Head and Best Actor at the Department of Education’s drama division.

A gifted speaker and sharp thinker, James is an award-winning IsiXhosa and English debater. His leadership extended into church youth ministries, where he served as Vice Chairman of the King William’s Town Youth Deanery and represented the Deanery at the Diocesan level.
James’s path took a spiritual turn when he was accepted into priestly formation at Saint Philip Neri Collegium in Port Elizabeth. In 2018, he was elected Student Council Secretary at Saint John Vianney Seminary NPC, where he continued o balance academic, poastoral, and creative commitments.
Today, James Qeqe is continuing his priestly formation—bringing his passion, faith, and public discourse into every chapter of his journey.
